TWO CAME Back

by Teneile Warren

In this powerful new play by Teneile Warren (Beyonsea and the Mothers, 2025), two runaways, Malachi and Freddie, meet unexpectedly at the train station. Freddie is fumbling his way to Thunder Bay — a haven for the drug trade — a place where Black boys become invisible. Malachi knows the danger that awaits Freddie. He takes a chance. He’ll take Freddie there if he gives him the opportunity to change his mind and probably save his life. Over the course of one night, they will share the trauma of Black boyhood, fathers and why finding ‘home’ means running away.

LOVE ME BACK

by Michael Kras

‘Love Me Back’, written by and starring Voaden Prize-winning playwright, Michael Kras, uses magic and illusion as a theatrical language to explore the fragility of belief, the human desire to love and be loved, and the quiet heartbreak that occurs when illusion gives way to truth. Blending personal storytelling, humour, and seven magic tricks, the piece examines the paradox at the heart of magic, namely, that it presents the impossible while reminding us it is impossible. Yet even knowing we are being “tricked,” we remain moved by the experience. The work asks: Why do we choose belief? Why do we risk love knowing it may end? Is love a form of illusion?

A 30-minute excerpt of Love Me Back was presented as part of Tarragon Theatre’s 2025 Greenhouse Festival.
