Green Light Arts presents a benefit performance of The Vagina Monologues on February 14, 2018 at 7:00pm in honour of V-Day; a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls started by author, playwright and activist Eve Ensler.
This collaboration is initiated by Susan Cadell, friend of GLA and a Professor of Social Work at the University of Waterloo specializing in research on palliative care, grief and posttraumatic growth. The Vagina Monologues will feature the talents of Waterloo Region community leaders from various sectors including political, civic, education, technology, social services, and the arts. The evening aims to honour the incredible female-identifying leaders of this Region while raising awareness about gender-based inequality, and celebrating sexuality.
The Vagina Monologues will take place at Council Chambers, Kitchener City Hall. All proceeds benefit Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region and V-Day’s 2018 Spotlight Campaign: The Resistance. This performance is directed by Carin Lowerison, founding member and Managing Director of Green Light Arts. Tickets are $18.00. Seating is limited to 150 patrons.
The play was written by Eve Ensler in 1994 and played off-Broadway for 5 years before touring across the United States. Ensler and a group of volunteers established the V-Day movement on Valentine’s Day in 1998 marking 2018 as the 20th Anniversary of V-Day which now includes over 5,800 V-Day events annually. This event is registered as the official V-Day event for Kitchener, ON.
