THE NEIGHBOURHOOD PROJECT
FEB-JUNE 2017 | EDUCATION and OUTREACH
A community engagement project. Youth coming together to create a site-specific, original piece of theatre about their neighbourhood.
In February 2017 Green Light Arts will commence The Neighbourhood Project, a FREE 20-week pilot theatre program exploring how theatre builds community. Meeting weekly, we will work with up to 20 youth (13-19 years) from Kingsdale neighbourhood in Kitchener, Ontario. We will provide them with theatre training, specialty workshops and guidance in creating an original 30 minute piece of theatre about their neighbourhood to perform in June 2017.
Beyond this pilot project, we hope to showcase this original piece in other neighbourhoods and at cultural events to further nurture community exchange and allow people to get to know more about Kingsdale neighbourhood in a unique way.
Each participant will receive a CASH honorarium at the end of the program. We are paying participants to thank them as authors of an original piece of theatre.
For the youth in Kingsdale, it is not enough that we are providing free training, we also want to show these young people that their creative work is valued and that their commitment and attendance is appreciated. Participants will also be given complimentary tickets to Green Light Arts’ 2016-2017 season productions.
